About the Artist

Delayna is a graphic designer and illustrator from Eagle, ID who is graduating from Whitworth University in Spokane, WA in May 2022. She has had a passion for art from a young age, seeking to create things simply to bring a smile to others faces. When Delayna is not making art or playing softball, she loves to spend time with friends and family, bake, watch movies, go paddleboarding, and play card games.

Artist Statement

Bright, inviting colors, clean lines, hand-drawn illustrations and lettering. These are the elements that are important to my work as a designer. Every project starts with a sketch; I feel more invested in the design process when I physically draw, erase, revise and manipulate my illustrations before converting them to digital images. My designs are made unique not only through playful and animated illustrations, but also in my use of hand lettering. I love experimenting with the many ways a typeface can convey a message in design and bring new attention and personality to the often commonplace aspects of a piece.

Inspiration for my illustrations and design work often come from my faith, children, and nature. These three things are what give me life as an artist. I find it easy to draw upon the hope brought through faith, the playful innocence of a child, and the natural beauty of God’s creation. A large portion of my most recent work has been inspired by my passion to provide children’s educators with new and fun learning material to use in either therapy or classroom settings. In working closely with a speech pathologist, I have been able to develop practical illustrations for both online and in-person learning activities as our current situation constantly evolves. In all the work I create, whether it be purely illustration or more traditional graphic design, my hope is to fill the lives of others with smiles, encouraging words and simple beauty; reflecting my own view that good can be found in every situation.
